SAMR Sorting Activity Practice Test

The acronym SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition, and it serves as a framework for evaluating how technology can enhance educational practices and experiences.

In this context, Substitution refers to replacing traditional tools with their digital counterparts without functional change, such as using a word processor instead of pen and paper. Augmentation takes it a step further, where technology serves as a direct tool substitute but also adds some functional improvement, like using grammar check features in a word processor. Modification involves significant task redesign, enabling educators to change learning activities in meaningful ways, such as using collaborative tools that facilitate real-time interaction among students. Finally, Redefinition allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously inconceivable, such as virtual reality experiences or global collaborations with classrooms across the world.

By understanding the levels of SAMR, educators can strategically integrate technology into their teaching to not only enhance but transform learning experiences for students. This framework is widely used in educational settings to assess and guide the implementation of technology in a way that aligns with pedagogical goals.
